Wantagh man arrested after police recover multiple firearms

A Wantagh man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after Nassau County police recovered multiple firearms and high-capacity magazines during an investigation at a home, police said.

Officers responded to a home on Austin Avenue at 1:51 p.m. on Tuesday. During the subsequent investigation, police recovered three rifles, one pistol, three high-capacity magazines and two lower receivers for handguns.

Police said the weapons were determined to belong to Edward Sheintul, 56, of Wantagh. Sheintul was taken into custody without incident.

Sheintul has been charged with criminal possession of a firearm, six counts of criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of criminal oossession of a weapon, according to police.

Authorities did not release additional details about what prompted the initial investigation or whether the weapons were loaded at the time of the recovery. No injuries were reported.

Sheintul is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Jan. 14.
