A fire damaged the rear of a Seaford home Monday morning, but all occupants escaped safely and no injuries were reported, according to the Seaford Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the Jackson Avenue home after a deck fire broke out in the rear of the residence just after 10 a.m. The street was temporarily closed as firefighters worked against the flames, according to reports from the scene. Crews stretched one hand line and extinguished the blaze, said Peter Lochner, second assistant chief of the Seaford Fire Department.

“The fire is currently under investigation by the Nassau County fire marshal’s office, and the Nassau County Police Department's arson and bomb squad,” Lochner said. The fire was contained to the back of the house, with damage reported in that area. No firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire remained under investigation as of Monday.
