Wantagh to hold Smart Schools hearing

Posted

The Wantagh School District will hold a special public hearing to present a plan for the use of Smart Schools funds that have been allocated to the district for technology and security on Thursday, June 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.

During the hearing, district administration will present plans to use the State’s allocation of $1,587,330 to Wantagh School District for district wide enhancements to security and wireless infrastructure.

The Smart Schools Act, approved by the voters last November, authorized the release of funds to school districts for State-approved plans to provide access to classroom technology and high-speed internet connectivity to equalize opportunities for children to learn, to add classroom space to expand high-quality pre-kindergarten programs, to replace classroom trailers with permanent instructional space, and/or to install high-tech smart security features in schools. School districts may submit their plans to the State via an online application portal that will open on June 15.

All district residents are invited to attend the hearing. Wantagh High School is located at 3297 Beltagh Ave.
