The Malverne Board of Education recognized the achievements of its academic leaders, valedictorian, and salutatorian at their May 12 meeting. Malverne principal Dr. Kesha Bascombe and Superintendent Dr. Maria Rianna congratulated the students with speeches. The students were also given plaques commemorating their achievements, and the top two graduates gave small speeches of their own. more

The six students awarded were Mateo Calderon, Catherine Urquiza, Hugo Idrogo, and Eden Morales-Gomez, of West Hempstead Secondary School, and Shira Massihesraelian and Shalhevet Koenigsberg, of Yeshiva University High School for Girls. more
On May 8, students from Malverne’s Davison Avenue Intermediate School led a special intergenerational visit to Atria Senior Living in Lynbrook to celebrate Mother’s Day. The collaborative event brought children and seniors together for a morning of connection and community spirit. more
Friday, May 15 was the Malverne Fire Department’s 114th annual installation ceremony. Fire department and company officers swore the oath of service, and Village Trustees Scott Edwards and Lori Lang swore in top-ranking department officials. The department also had its annual inspection. more
The Malverne and West Hempstead school districts’ voters approved each of their budgets for the 2026-27 school years on Tuesday, May 19. Malverne’s approved budget is about $75.1 million, and West Hempstead’s is about $83 million. more

The West Hempstead community came together for a Lag B’Omer celebration barbecue at Hempstead Lake State Park on Tuesday, May 6. The event was organized by Chabad West Hempstead along with local synagogues, including Beis Medrash of West Hempstead. Over 1500 participants attended the celebration. more
