Malverne teen arrested for hitting pedestrian with car

According to a report from the Nassau County Police Department, a serious car accident that involved a pedestrian occurred on Jan. 4 at 12:18 p.m. in Malverne.

The press release states that a black Toyota Camry struck an 80-year-old female pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Cornwell Avenue. The woman was transported to a local hospital where she was listed in critical condition at the time of the release.

The driver of the Toyota Camry fled the scene eastbound on Franklin Avenue.

Following an investigation by the police, Matthew Calabrese, 19, of Malverne, was placed under arrest.

Calabrese was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury and a right of way violation. He was arraigned on Jan. 5 at First District Court in Hempstead where he pleaded not guilty.
