The Malverne and West Hempstead public libraries will be receiving funds from New York State to support construction in their buildings. The funds come from the $44 million in capital funds dedicated for public library construction and broadband infrastructure projects provided in the 2024-25 State Budget.
The Malverne Public Library has been allocated $63,733 to enable the library to have their entire HVAC system replaced.
The West Hempstead Public Library has been allocated $144,570 to support the renovation of the adult reference area on the main floor.
“Libraries are far more than places to borrow books — they are essential community hubs that provide access to education, technology, job training, and critical public services,” Judy Griffin, who represents Malverne and West Hempstead in Assembly District 21, wrote in a press release announcing the allocated funds. “This funding is an important step, but it also highlights the ongoing need for continued investment in our local libraries. As community needs grow and buildings age, sustained state support is crucial to ensuring libraries remain safe, accessible, modern, and able to serve every resident, regardless of age or ability.”
