On May 22, Malverne’s Maurice W. Downing Primary School community gathered for a morning of celebration at its monthly awards ceremony, spotlighting student leadership and character development.
The monthly event serves as a dual celebration of behavioral excellence and strategic academic growth. This month, the WE CAN Awards recognized primary students who consistently make positive, responsible choices in their daily school lives.
Simultaneously, the Portrait of Success Awards honored students who directly exemplify the attributes of the Malverne’s "Portrait of a Graduate." The focus for May centered on the essential pillar of being ethical, celebrating young learners who routinely demonstrate honesty, kindness, fairness and a commitment to doing what is right.
Adding a dynamic cultural component to the morning, the second grade Glee Club took the stage for a special spring performance. Under the direction of music teacher Ms. Wowk, the student vocalists energized the crowded room with enthusiastic renditions of "I Like to Sing" and the powerful, self-affirming anthem "This Is Me."
“By celebrating ethical choices alongside achievements in the arts, the Downing community continues to build a proud culture of mutual respect and student success that resonates across the entire Malverne family,” district representatives said.
