Three Malverne School District faculty members have recently been recognized with prestigious regional awards for their outstanding dedication, innovative teaching methods and commitment to student success across the fields of science, STEM and social studies.

At the 27th Annual Science Teachers Association of New York State Science Award Dinner, Malverne High School science teacher Kevin Link was honored with the prestigious 2027 Outstanding Science Teacher Award.

The Nassau STANYS honor recognizes educators who go above and beyond in fostering scientific curiosity and critical thinking. Mr. Link’s award-winning approach to science education and his unwavering dedication to inspiring the next generation of scientists continue to make a profound difference in Malverne classrooms every single day.

Further highlighting the district's strong STEM initiatives, Howard T. Herber Middle School science teacher Derek Girardi was named a recipient of the LISTEMELA STEM Star Award.

Presented by the Long Island STEM Education Leadership Association, this distinction honors educators who demonstrate exceptional leadership and a strong commitment to providing equitable, high-quality STEM learning experiences. Mr. Girardi’s efforts ensure that all students have access to the vital tools and skills needed to thrive in an increasingly technological world.

In the field of humanities, Davison Avenue Intermediate School fifth grade teacher Colleen Moran has been selected to receive the Margaret Simon Award for Excellence in Elementary Social Studies Education, awarded by the Long Island Council for the Social Studies.

This accolade recognizes elementary educators who go above and beyond in advocating for social studies, successfully integrating history and civics into the classroom through creative, engaging techniques. Ms. Moran’s passion and heart make these critical lessons memorable and impactful, helping young students connect deeply with the world around them. She will be officially honored at the LICSS awards ceremony this June.
