The 124 members of the “Pride of Malverne” High School Marching Band spent the week of July 27 honing their music, marching and choreography during annual band camp as they prepared for the 2026 competitive season.

Throughout the week, students rehearsed their new field show, “Door 13,” while building teamwork and welcoming incoming freshmen to the program. Inspired by the music of composer Bernard Herrmann, the production features selections including The Twilight Zone Theme, Twisted Nerve, Vertigo and Death Hunt from On Dangerous Ground. The show invites audiences into a mysterious world where reality shifts, time falters and nothing is quite as it seems.

Band camp serves as the foundation for the season, allowing students to learn drill formations, refine musical performances and strengthen the camaraderie that has become a hallmark of the award-winning program.

The Pride of Malverne opens its competitive season on Sept. 20 and will conclude with the New York State Field Band Conference Championships in Syracuse on Oct. 31.

Founded in 1972, the New York State Field Band Conference promotes and organizes marching band competitions throughout the state while encouraging participation and providing a positive experience for student musicians. Malverne’s band will compete alongside schools from across New York throughout the fall season before vying for a state championship at the conference finals.
