Students across the Malverne school district returned to classrooms Sept. 2, marking the start of the 2026-27 school year at all four district schools.

From students arriving for their first days at Maurice W. Downing Primary School to seniors beginning their final year at Malverne High School, students and staff settled back into their school-day routines following summer break.

At Downing and Davison Avenue Intermediate School, students stepped off buses and headed into their schools, where teachers, administrators and staff welcomed them back. The first day also gave students an opportunity to meet new school leaders as they became familiar with their classrooms, teachers and schedules for the year ahead.

The return to school continued at Howard T. Herber Middle School and Malverne High School, where students reconnected with classmates and teachers and began adjusting to their new classes and daily schedules. New assistant principals also joined administrators and staff in welcoming students as classes got underway.

For the district’s youngest students, Sept. 2 marked the beginning of a new experience, while older students returned to familiar hallways for another year of classes, activities and school events.

Across Malverne’s four schools, opening day brought students, teachers and staff back together and marked the beginning of another academic year for the district.
