Ken Sicoli thought he was going to his grandson’s Little League game in Hicksville. But on the drive there, his family persuaded him to make a quick stop at East Meadow High School’s baseball field, his home away from home as coach of the varsity squad for 33 years until his retirement last year.

A first-quarter injury to the San Diego Chargers’ starting center during their Wild Card playoff game against the host Cincinnati Bengals on Jan. 5 forced the team to abruptly call on their backup. With five minutes remaining in the quarter, in stepped Rich Ohrnberger, a five-year NFL veteran, a three-year starter at Penn State University, and a 2004 East Meadow High School graduate.

The family of Billy Andrle, a senior at East Meadow High School, is suing the East Meadow School District for, according to his attorney, “damaging his chance of scholarships and … professional sports thereafter” after he alleges that Andrle was kicked off of the varsity football team in September.
