Patricia Bregel, 35, of Lynbrook, has been sentenced to two to six years in prison by Nassau County Judge Alan Honorof for her involvement in the death of East Rockaway man Timothy Motherway in March of 2009, according to the Nassau County D.A.'s office. Bregel, who pleaded guilty to drunk driving and manslaughter after she caused the crash that killed Motherway, according to Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice. more

The Nassau County Robbery Squad is investigating a bank robbery that took place last Friday at 8:55 a.m. at Astoria Federal Savings Bank in East Rockaway. According to detectives, two men, one armed with a black automatic pistol, entered the bank, at 464 Atlantic Ave. One man held bank personnel at gunpoint while another vaulted the counter and removed currency from three teller stations. After demanding access to the bank vault, which he was told employees could not open, the second man forced a teller to open the ATM safe, where he removed more money. The suspeects then fled in an unknown direction. more
Lynbrook police arrested Robert King, 19, of Tredwell Avenue in Lynbrook, in connection with the robbery of a stationery store in Lynbrook on Aug. 26. The robber was described as wearing a pink jumpsuit and a blond wig and carrying an off-white woman’s handbag. Police say the store clerk noticed the man’s dark hair underneath the wig. more
