The Bank of America on Main Street in East Rockaway was robbed late Tuesday afternoon for the second time in three months. Police detectives investigated at the scene as a police helicopter flew overhead. Fourth precinct police described the man as being white, wearing a blue, sleeveless shirt, with a crew-cut hair style and looking "like a construction worker." They said he may have gotten into a red car. They did not reveal if a weapon was used in the robbery, or how much money was taken. more

The drunk driver who killed East Rockaway resident Tim Motherway in a car accident last March pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter and one count of misdemeanor DWI on Tuesday at Nassau County Criminal Court in Mineola. The drunk driver, Patricia Bregel, 33, will receive 16 months to 4 years in jail. She will begin to serve her sentence in six weeks. more
A Nassau County crossing guard was assaulted by a fifteen-year-old male while she was on duty at her crossing at the intersection of Centre Avenue and Forrest Avenue on Mar. 17 at 3:30 p.m., according to Nassau County Juvenile Aid Bureau detectives. more
The Nassau County Robbery Squad arrested John Brooks, 58, of Springfield Gardens, in connection with a series of bank robberies that started in October of 2009.
