The Elmont Memorial Day Parade will be held on Monday, May 30, beginning at 10:30 a.m., at the Sewanhaka High School, located at 500 Tulip Ave. in Floral Park. The parade will travel south on Covert Avenue, to Hempstead Turnpike, then turns west on the turnpike, ending at the Elmont Memorial Library, located at 700 Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont. The Elmont Fire Department was alerted of a house fire at 275 Emily Ave. in Elmont on May 7, at 7:03 p.m. Elmont Chief Mike Capoziello said the fire, which had fully engulfed the second floor of the home, was venting itself out a second floor window at the rear of the home. more
