Groups opposed to Port Ambrose, a proposed liquefied natural gas terminal in the Atlantic Ocean southeast of Jones Beach, are fuming at the U.S. Maritime Administration and Coast Guard’s decisions to release a 1,800-page environmental impact report shortly before the December holidays and schedule public meetings in early January.

A company’s plans to build “Port Ambrose,” a liquefied natural gas terminal in the Atlantic Ocean 19 miles southeast of Jones Beach, have stalled for months in a federal review process, but that is likely to change next month. A U.S. Coast Guard official estimated that the government will release a Draft Environmental Impact Statement for Port Ambrose in December.

It was the summer of 2012. Madeleine Petrara Perrin, an attorney from Bayville, couldn’t get over how much Joe had changed. She had last seen Joe, a Bayville native who was 56 at the time, at his apartment a year earlier when she was volunteering for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic charitable group committed to ending poverty.
Joe was a shell of his former self.
