Nassau County Police are warning young people to be on the lookout for a white van after three teens were approached in separate incidents by the driver over the past week in the North Merrick-North Bellmore and East Meadow areas. The teens were asked whether they wanted a ride. The teens ran home and informed their parents, who called police. Authorities said the teens did the right thing by running away and letting police know. more
They’re called “pharm parties,” short for pharmacy parties. A group of teenagers –– perhaps as young as 12 and 13 years old –– methodically swipe opiate-based pain killers like Oxycontin and Oxycodone from their parents’ and grandparents’ medicine cabinets, dump the pills into a big bowl when no adult is looking and take turns rolling a die. Update: 10:00 a.m. Four Brooklyn men brandishing knives and possibly a handgun invaded a North Bellmore home on Bellmore Avenue on Monday morning, around 9 a.m., and Nassau County police officers pursued the men into Merrick and later the Wantagh-Seaford area, firing shots at and wounding one of the suspects, authorities said. more
