The election is over, signs still clutter. Eventually, the same groups will continue their ways. Our county representative is still there, as he has been for years. We get his biannual, multi-colored postcard lauding his past efforts, i.e. the farm he bought. I think it’s the public that bought it years before. more
Recently, the village installed an electronic message board in the pool parking lot close to the fence on Merrick Road. In theory this is a great idea. It would get rid of all the posters and banners that are hung on the fence announcing upcoming  village activities. more
Now that local elections are over, I think it is appropriate to draw some conclusions regarding the results. On Nov. 8, a fractional number of the eligible electorate overwhelmingly expressed their view that the incumbents, who have gotten us to our current state of affairs, deserve another opportunity to give us more of the same. more
On Tuesday, I am voting for Gary Port to be my next supervisor. I am voting for Gary because as a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army, and a family man, he understands the words sacrifice, honor and loyalty. I am not asking for an elected leader to solve my problems, just one to be loyal to me, a resident of this town — not a political party boss. more
I wish to comment on the excellent appointment of Virginia Clavin-Higgins as a Valley Stream trustee. I have known Virginia for all of her life and she is a true Valley Streamer. more
Not only did we see your article in the Herald (“Gonzalez takes on Becker in Legislature,” Oct. 13-19), but also were watching the debate between Fran Becker and Anthony Gonzalez, and one of the statements Gonzalez delivered was that he had to be pushed into running — not a good sign. more
Jim Darcy is the most concerned politician when it comes to Valley Stream and other council districts. He was brought up right here and attended school here. Whatever decision he makes is carefully and fully thought through. He does not leave any stone unturned. more
Now, after more than seven months have elapsed and on the eve of another critical local election, I believe that it is appropriate and helpful that I offer some reflections and views based on my experience. We wish to congratulate Virginia Clavin-Higgins on her new position as village trustee in Valley Stream. What a great addition she will be to this board. more
