The Calhoun Colts badminton team practiced throughout the 2010-11 school year while sporting T-shirts with the phrase, “Winning is a choice.” It’s a choice that the squad has made three years in a row. On May 20, the Lady Colts defeated Port Washington, winning four of seven games to capture the Nassau County championship. It marked the third consecutive county title for Calhoun, which the program had never accomplished before. more

Mets first baseman Ike Davis will coach Coleman Country campers when he visits “The Ranch” in Merrick in July. The emerging superstar is one of the best players on the Mets and had one of the hottest starts in all of Major League Baseball this season before an injury forced him onto the disabled list. At 24, he was named the first baseman on Baseball America’s 2010 All-Rookie team. more
