A 14-year-old girl was walking on Doris Place at the corner of Gormley Avenue at 6:05 p.m. on May 19, when she was approached by a man she described as in his late 20s in a black, late-model Jeep with new blue-and-yellow New York license plates. The man asked her if she was lost and told her several times to get in his car, police said.

The Calhoun girls’ varsity badminton team recently won the Nassau County Championship with a 4-3 victory over Great Neck South. The Calhoun girls finished the season with a 15-0 record –– and their second straight championship. Team Captain Christina Strezenec won the overall singles title, beating out all other Nassau badminton players in a two-day tournament. With this win, Strezenec became the only player in Calhoun history to win four county titles playing a varsity sport.
