The former law firm of Nassau County Legislator David Denenberg is suing him in State Supreme Court in Manhattan, seeking $3.6 million in damages. The firm alleges that Denenberg systemically and fraudulently overbilled a client to the tune of $2.3 million over eight years, and sought a 25 percent annual bonus from the firm based, at least in part, on those billings. more

With the summer winding down, so is work on the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District’s three new artificial-turf athletic fields at Calhoun, Kennedy and Mepham high schools. The fields passed their final “bounce test” and were certified playable on Sept. 9, according to Saul Lerner, the Central District's athletics director. more
Nassau County started video enforcement of school speed zones at 20 sites across the county, including two in the Bellmore-Merrick area, during the first week of September, when school began. Eventually, Nassau officials say they will install 56 cameras across the county. more
