Dancing the night away for a cause
Residents of the Bellmores and Merricks danced the night away last Friday in support of the Bellmore-Merrick Community Wellness Council’s Midnight Madness substance-free post-prom party when the council hosted a zumba class at the Brookside School in North Merrick. more

Wendy Tepfer, executive director of the Bellmore-Merrick Community Parent Center, was recently honored by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Council for her efforts to create the Driving in the Safe Lane Program, which is now in about half of Nassau County’s 57 high schools. She was joined here recently by Saul Lerner, the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District’s health and athletics director, who helped to create the safe-driving program.

The scenario is tragic, gruesome and perennial. A high school senior, all of 16 or 17 years old, gets a driver’s license. His or her proud parents hurry out to buy their child a new car –– perhaps a fast car. Within days or weeks, the teen is dead, killed in a fiery wreck. more

  The Bellmore-Merrick Community Wellness Council will hold a zumba dance class in the Brookside School gymnasium on Friday, Nov. 4, with proceeds benefitting the council’s annual post-prom party. more

On May 18, 2008, one second forever altered Jacy Good’s life when a tractor-trailer slammed head-on into her family’s station wagon, carrying the then 21-year-old and her parents, Jay and Jean. The truck swerved to avoid a mini-van, driven by an 18-year-old who, according to officials, was engrossed in a cell-phone call. The teen sped through a red light in Maidencreek, Township, Pa., apparently oblivious to the road before him. more
