They might not know it, but members of the Jericho boys’ swim team have targets on their backs. The Bellmore-Merrick Sharks tied Jericho last season, and fell to the squad by two points in a meet this year. The Sharks now say they’re hoping for a different outcome the next time the two teams meet, at the county championships in February. They want to win. more

Calhoun High School senior Jenny Wu is on quite the roll. In the fall, she was named a semifinalist in the prestigious Siemens Westinghouse Science and Technology Competition. Then, in December, she learned that she had been accepted to her “dream school” –– Yale University. This past week, she received word that she was named a semifinalist in the Intel Science Talent Search. more

Three Kennedy High School students were recently named winners in the PTA’s 2010-11 Reflections contest, which is intended to promote art and music in young people. The theme of this year’s Reflections contest was “Together We Can…” Kennedy’s winners are, from left, Rachel Spector (literature), Sarah Wolk (art) and Alexandra Perez (photography). Perez’s entry went on to the Nassau County Reflections competition and was again named a winner. The entry now moves on to the state competition. more
