They might not know it, but members of the Jericho boys’ swim team have targets on their backs. The Bellmore-Merrick Sharks tied Jericho last season, and fell to the squad by two points in a meet this year. Joshua Golub, a Calhoun High School senior, was recently named a semifinalist in the 2010-11 Coca-Cola Scholars Program. About 2,100 high school seniors, out of 71,000 applications, are in the running for $3 million in scholarships offered by the program. Two hundred and fifty finalists will be chosen to travel to Atlanta in April for a final interview. more

Grand Avenue Middle School promotes a community of caring for all, school officials say. To further that environment, a new program, “Grand Gives Back,” was launched in September.
