North Bellmore School District’s Committee to Explore Educational Options came to the decision to recommend closing Gunther School Wednesday evening. The announcement came at the committee’s public meeting at Saw Mill School. Following a discussion of which of the six elementary schools made the most sense to close, the 21-member committee put the decision up to a vote. Twelve of the board members voted for closing Gunther as the most viable option. more

School Boards Recognition Week, sponsored by the New York State School Boards Association, was held from Oct. 31 to Nov. 4, and as is tradition in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District, students from Grand Avenue and Merrick Avenue middle schools attended November’s Board of Education meeting to honor school trustees.
