Much was the same about this year’s Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District graduation ceremonies on Sunday. Seniors came attired in their caps and gowns –– blue robes for Calhoun, green for Kennedy and red for Mepham. Excited parents showered their now adult children with flowers and balloons, and snapped hundreds of photos. more

But the PTA’s request for county grant money has hit a yearlong stall as the money winds its way through the legislative process. more

In early June, Calhoun High School senior Erin Zseller will head to the war-ravaged nation of Uganda as part of a two-week volunteer mission sponsored by the non-profit organization Invisible Children. Zseller was chosen from a pool of 10 Calhoun applicants, and she will be the fourth student from the school to make the trip to Uganda in the past three years. more
