As a two-time New York Golden Gloves winner and trainer on the NBC reality show “The Biggest Loser,” Castronuova knows that success requires hard work.

The Kennedy High School girls’ soccer team came together on Sept. 17 in support of Children’s Cancer Awareness Month. After an early-morning practice, all 23 players met at Salon Envy in Merrick and purchased Streaks of Sunshine hair extensions, with proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Metro New York. The extensions are $10 each.

Grassy, a 5-year-old thoroughbred, won the Grade 2, $150,000 Bowling Green Handicap last Saturday, which was opening day of the fall season at Belmont Park. Despite tripping under Garrett Gomez, Grassy overtook Center Divider just outside the 16th pole and outlasted that one to the wire, to win by a half-length.
