Bellmore-Merrick budget approved; Bellmore, North Bellmore's budgets also pass

The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District’s $188 million budget was approved by voters on May 16, with over 2,500 votes in favor of it. 

Schools effected include Grand Avenue and Merrick Avenue Middle Schools and John F. Kennedy, Sanford H. Calhoun and Wellington C. Mepham High Schools.

"The 2023 budget has passed," the district wrote in a release to the Herald. "Thank you Bellmore-Merrick community."

The Bellmore Public School District’s budget of $39 million passed, with 407 votes in favor and 165 against it. Board of Education trustee Jay L.T. Breakstone, who was running unopposed, was re-elected for another term with 423 votes.

The elementary schools affected by this outcome are Charles A. Reinhard Early Childhood Center, Winthrop Avenue School and Shore Road School.

In North Bellmore, the Board of Education’s current vice president Christine Malloy was also re-elected with 1,170 votes. Her seat was uncontested.

"Congratulations to (the) Board of Education members who were re-elected," the Central District said.

North Bellmore's $64 million budget also passed with 1,067 votes in favor of it.  Schools affected include John G. Dinkelmeyer, Martin Avenue, Newbridge Road, Park Avenue and Saw Mill Road Elementary Schools.

Each of the three budgets promise to uphold educational standards in Bellmore’s schools, while also adding things to curriculum that better the overall learning atmosphere at every grade level.
