Chabad of Merrick-Bellmore-Wantagh celebrated Purim on March 3 with a festive Hawaiian-themed party.

Purim, a Jewish holiday commemorating the story of Queen Esther and the salvation of the Jewish people in ancient Persia, is traditionally observed by giving gifts of food to friends, donating to the needy, hearing the megillah, and enjoying a festive meal.

Participants at the event took part in all of these mitzvahs while also enjoying themed activities, including a treasure hunt at “Waikiki Beach” to create I Spy graggers, wooden gragger and lei making, and an exotic animal encounter with snakes and other reptiles from Uncle Tony’s Tropical Reptiles.
