End of winter brings fun events to Bellmore-Merrick libraries

As the winter starts to wind down, the four libraries of Bellmore-Merrick bring fun, entertaining, and informative events.

The North Bellmore Public Library will host Newsday investigative reporter Sandra Peddie for a breakdown of how law enforcement solved the Gilgo Beach serial killer case on Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m. It will focus on the build up of the case, and the investigation of the killer themselves. 

The library will host a movie watch party for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny on Feb.28 at 1 p.m. Harrison Ford returns to his iconic role as Indiana Jones in an action thriller.

Professor Thomas Germano will be coming to the library on March 8, to dive into the National Gallery of Ireland’s European fine art in celebration of St.Patrick’s Day. Attendees will learn about classic and modern art, including pieces from Caravaggio, Vermeer, and Francis Bacon. The event will be taking place from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The Bellmore Memorial Library will hold some events of their own, such as a showing of the live action movie, The Little Mermaid on Feb. 25 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. The movie came out in 2023, and is a live action adaptation of the classic animation.

The library will also host a workshop, where attendees will make tie-dye socks on Tuesday, Mar. 12. The dye and socks will be provided, with all socks being regular women-size. A $5 check made payable to Bellmore Memorial Library is required, cash and other payment options will not be accepted. This event will be hosted from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Along with the Bellmore libraries, the Merrick libraries will host fun, and engaging interactive events.

The Merrick library, located at 2279 Merrick Ave, Merrick, will have a Mystery Oreo Taste Test for teens after school at 4 p.m., on Friday, Feb.16. Attendees will be tasting cookies and guessing their flavors, all with their eyes closed. 

Z tag Lazer tag will also be coming to the library for grades 3-6 the following week, Friday, Feb. 23. Attendees will go through a variety of fun lazer games from 1 to 2 p.m.

Mental health is very important for children, and teaching kids how to manage their mental health is just as important. The library will host a Children’s Worries Workshop, which will teach attendees tips to manage and deal with their worries and anxiety. The workshop will be held on Feb. 28 at 6:30 p.m.

The North Merrick Public Library will host a Jester Jim show on Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. Children will be able to watch an interactive, energetic and fun juggling show.

The library will also be hosting a Stroke Awareness Workshop on March 15 at 3 p.m. Attendees will learn about what their health should be, and will become more aware of the warning signs, symptoms, risks, and preventions of strokes.
