More than 400 people came out to take part in the North Bellmore Fire Department's annual Fire Prevention Open House on Oct. 4 at the North Bellmore Department's Station No. 2 on Newbridge Road.

The open house was held in recognition of National Fire Prevention Week, which focuses on burn awareness and prevention, as well as keeping homes safe from the leading causes of home fires.

The four-hour event featured family fun as a part of the learning process, enhancing awareness of what the volunteer firefighters and EMS workers do, as well as providing safety education to residents. Highlights included fire truck rides, fire-extinguisher simulations, vehicle-extrication demonstrations, high-angle rope rescues and emergency home exit drills.

Also offered were free raffles prizes for fire extinguishers and smoke detectors, as well as refreshments.
