Members of the Freeport-Merrick Rotary Club helped support the back-to-school charity efforts of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island through a $500 donation to the organization.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island have been collecting various school supplies and life essentials this summer to be given away to students and families in need. They have stockpiled backpacks, three-ring binders, notebooks, scientific calculators, combination locks, writing utensils and more. The Freeport-Merrick Rotary’s donation helps acquire more items and contribute to other initiatives.
In addition to their school supply drive, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island have developed mentorship programs aimed at providing quality academic and emotional growth of children across Nassau and Suffolk counties. Children between the ages of 7 and 16 are matched with volunteer mentors that are 18 years and over.
