Three John F. Kennedy High School students were recognized by State Sen. Steve Rhoads for earning the New York State Youth Leadership Award, which honors students for their leadership, academic achievement and community service.
Emily Greco, Matthew Tolipano and Nazeeha Vargas received the award in recognition of their leadership, dedication and service to both their school and the broader community.
The New York State Youth Leadership Award recognizes students who demonstrate exceptional leadership and a strong commitment to serving others. Recipients are selected for their character, initiative and civic engagement, as well as their efforts to make a positive impact in their schools and communities.
"Our young people are the future of our communities, and it is always inspiring to recognize students who lead by example through hard work, integrity, and a commitment to serving others," Rhoads said in a statement.
"The New York State Youth Leadership Award celebrates not only academic excellence, but also the character, initiative, and civic responsibility that strengthen our schools and neighborhoods," he added. "I congratulate these outstanding students on this well-deserved recognition and look forward to seeing all they will accomplish in the years ahead."
According to Rhoads' office, the students' accomplishments reflect responsibility, integrity and a dedication to public service, qualities the award seeks to recognize in young leaders across New York.
