Voters approve 2020-21 Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District budget

After thousands of absentee ballots have poured in, the votes for the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District's 2020-21 budget have been tallied. 

The $166 million spending plan was approved by voters, who cast 8,400 votes for and 4,983 votes against the proposition. 

The budget has a 2.56 percent tax levy increase as compared to the current year's budget. 

Proposition 2 was also approved, which allows a $751,808 expedniture from the district's capital reserve fund. Enhancements include parking lot, tennis court and track resurfacing, as well as floor and ceiling tile replacement at W.C. Mepham High School, Grand Avenue and Merrick Avenue Middle Schools and door and lock replacements in all buildings.

Voters cast 10,056 approving votes and 3,412 dissenting votes towards Proposition 2.
