First Sgt. Thomas Seifert of East Rockaway was selected by Sen. Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) to be inducted into the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame. Seifert, 43, was one of the youngest recipients of the award. He was honored at a ceremony on Aug. 19 at the Robert F. Garrison Post No. 3350 on Main Street, where he is a member. more

Emil Stucchio and The Classics entertained the audience on the beach at Hewlett Point as part of the Town of Hempstead’s musical Summer Series on July 13. Stucchio has lived in East Rockaway since 1964. Even a 10-minute downpour shortly into the performance couldn’t damped the crowd’s enthusiasm, and soon the clouds parted as the group sang standards from the 50s and 60s. more

Originally from Washington D.C., Sislen worked for more than 15 years as a theatrical lighting designer in multiple theaters along the east coast. more
