Emil Stucchio and The Classics entertained the audience on the beach at Hewlett Point as part of the Town of Hempstead’s musical Summer Series on July 13. Stucchio has lived in East Rockaway since 1964. Even a 10-minute downpour shortly into the performance couldn’t damped the crowd’s enthusiasm, and soon the clouds parted as the group sang standards from the 50s and 60s. more

Thomas Lonergan, 60, died on May 28 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington,VT. He was born on October 15,1949 in New York, NY to the late Michael and Lillian Lonergan. They moved to East Rockaway when Thomas was a child. He is survived by his four children: Thomas, Terrence, Joseph, Roxanne and a brother Joseph Lonergan, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. more
Cornell University has chosen East Rockaway in Nassau County to train students in doing a village-wide street tree inventory. On Saturday, August 7 and Sunday August 8, five teams, headed by Professor Nina Bassuk of the Cornell University Urban Horticulture Institute, will be collecting data on village street trees. more
