Jaclyn Stamile’s Girl Scout Gold Award Project got off to a great start at the Lynbrook Recreation Center on Sept. 11 when dozens of residents showed up to design and paint their own tile for the mosaic that will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Village of Lynbrook.
“I came to be part of the patchwork,” said one elementary school student. “I’m going to draw my school on my tile.”

Catherine Papandrew, president of the Lynbrook school board, has received a New York State School Boards Association Honorary Master of Boardsmanship Award. The award is the highest honor bestowed by the association’s Leadership Development Recognition Program.

Lynbrook residents: get ready for a roller-coaster ride through the village’s first 100 years. The celebration will kick off with the Centennial Expo at Greis Park on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This will be the 21st Expo for the village.

Hewlett's Jessica Rosen, a recent Lynbrook High School graduate and a freshman at Washington University in St. Louis, was awarded a Howard Nemerov Writing Scholarship from the school. This scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen in the College of Arts & Sciences who demonstrated exceptional writing talent. The $3,000 award is renewable for four years.

As many children scrambled to enjoy the last lazy days of summer, Allison Curran was teeming with anticipation for a new school year. After leaving Oceanside school district earlier this year, Curran is ready for a new challenge. As the newest member of Lynbrook Public School District’s administrative team, she brings a wealth of educational experience that she will put to the test as the new grades K-5 Curriculum Specialist.

Upon entering the new Lynbrook Irish Shop, you may feel like being in a fairytale with the unique displays, decorations, and almost picturesque decor. And lately, many visitors can now see the shop owner’s daughter, Kiera Derrig, displaying her compassion with a fundraiser for Bella Tucker, the 9-year-old girl who underwent quadruple amputation surgery in April.
