On Friday, millions of Americans will honor our veterans for their service in the armed forces. In a ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, a wreath will be laid at the Tomb of the Unknowns, servicemen and women will be introduced and lauded, and dignitaries will speak of those who have selflessly served our country.

In this space last week, we expressed our disappointment that the Nassau County Legislature puts politics before people, almost always voting along party lines, hardly ever working in concert to accomplish great things for a county that has never needed great things to happen more than it does now.

It’s just over three weeks until Election Day, Nov. 8. Candidates are running for all 19 seats on the Nassau County Legislature, three Hempstead Town Council district positions, the townwide offices of supervisor, clerk and receiver of taxes, and judgeships in the county and state courts.
