Two cats and a dog were killed and a fireman was injured during a Lynbrook house fire on April 28 that took firefighters more than three hours to extinguish.

The Lynbrook Fire Department responded to the blaze at a two-story home on Davison Avenue in Lynbrook at around 8:34 p.m., according to Press Spokesman Dan Neri. Neri said he was unsure if the house’s owners were home when the fire started, but major damage was caused.

“The house is uninhabitable,” Neri said. He added that one firefighter hurt his hand, but was treated at the scene.

Neri said the fire started on the first floor and extended up to the second level and to the basement and attic. When firefighters responded to the blaze, flames were bellowing through the windows, Neri said, and the second floor had completely collapsed by the time the fire was put out. “We got out of there after about 3 ½ hours,” he said.

Units from Malverne, East Rockaway, Rockville Centre, Hewlett and Valley Stream also responded to the scene.

The Nassau County fire marshal’s office is still investigating how the fire started.
