Becker on the campaign trail

Q&A with congressional hopeful

Posted

It may not be a game of chess, but it is a race to the top for Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-Garden City) and her challenger, Francis Becker, Republican primary winner who will face McCarthy in the 4th Congressional District race. And with November’s election right around the corner, the countdown is on.

This is part one of a Herald series about this race. Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy will be featured next week.

Francis X. Becker , 57, is a Lynbrook resident and the Nassau County Legislator for the 6th Legslative District. The district includes Lynbrook, Malverne, North Lynbrook, most of Valley Stream and East Rockaway, south Rockville Centre and portions of

North Valley Stream and Oceanside.

He also is a certified financial planner and president of Becker & Associates Planning Services on Earle Avenue in Lynbrook. He lives in Lynbrook with his wife, Clementine.

Q: What are your next campaign moves?

Becker: “ I am ecstatic to have won the primary and I am very grateful for the support of my fellow Republicans. I now will be running on four lines: the Republican, Conservative, Independence, and Tax Revolt Party lines in my fight to unseat Carolyn McCarthy whom I believe has consistently voted against the best interests of the seniors and families in our district.”

Q: What are you doing to prepare for the upcoming election?

Becker: “The most important task in any campaign is raising money. Carolyn McCarthy has many special interests groups and Hollywood supporting her. I am doing very well in raising money from residents and local business owners.”

Q: What are your thoughts or plans on stimulating jobs?

Becker: “I will go to Washington with an agenda to create real jobs — that will be my total focus. To do this, in part, we must repeal ‘Obama Care,”… create new sources of energy in our own country which are high paying jobs. Extend tax cuts to allow the money to stay in the economy for new investment and purchasing power for the consumer.”

Q: What would you like to see happen with the U.S. health care system?

Becker: “It must be repealed. I believe ‘Obama Care,’ will be a disaster for all Americans but especially our seniors. It is not insurance, but simply another entitlement program which the nation cannot afford.”
