Come to the Cafeteria Cabaret

Lynbrook High School puts on a show

In what has become a proud community tradition, the Lynbrook High School Tri-M Music Honor Society sponsored its annual Cabaret Night, which showcased the musical talents of dozens of high school students while raising approximately $2,000 for the food pantries at St. Raymond’s Church in East Rockaway and Our Lady of Peace Church of Lynbrook.

With some creative lighting and colorful tablecloths, students transformed the school cafeteria into a cozy cabaret lounge, which emcee Jessica Karpov dubbed the “Café-teria.”

They delighted friends and family with two complete acts of song and dance performances that represented a broad range of talent and tastes, including ballads, instrumentals, lighthearted musical numbers, and even tap dancing. The Cabaret Night House Band provided musical interludes between acts.

The Lynbrook Tri-M chapter is a service organization that contributes to the school and surrounding communities through musical performances and student mentoring. Students are carefully selected for this international honor society on the basis of scholarship, character, leadership and service. Throughout the year, Tri-M members perform at senior citizen centers, nursing homes, community centers and various schools within the district, acting as musical goodwill ambassadors. They also extend themselves as music tutors to students in the middle and elementary schools in preparation for the NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) solo evaluation festivals.

Cabaret Night is the organization’s biggest fundraising event of the year. Students work under the guidance of Tri-M advisor Susan Sussman.
