Nassau Municipal Employees Local 882 President John Shepherd and East Rockaway Village DPW Unit President Frank Coppola recently announced that CSEA has endorsed mayoral candidate Francis T. Lenahan, Jr. as well as village trustee candidates Ed Corrado and Stanley Lombardo in the 2011 election set for March 15. All three are running on the Village Pride Party line.

“East Rockaway Village has been in a state of disarray since the untimely passing of Mayor Sieban a few months ago,” said Shepherd. “CSEA has thrown its support behind these three gentlemen because they have indicated a willingness to partner with labor to reign in the growth of administrative salaries, make responsible plans for future village development and control the persistent rise of taxes.”

Shepard said in a press release that Lenahan, a long-time civic leader and current village trustee, has stated his objective to lead the community with a positive vision and preserve the small town character that makes East Rockaway a distinctive place to live.

Corrado, he continued, is an experienced manager and planner who has worked for major companies during his successful career and is a familiar face to the people of East Rockaway. “Ed is always among the first of our neighbors willing to volunteer and lend a hand to improve quality of life for seniors and working families here in the village,” Coppola added.

Lombardo is intent on reducing village spending in the 2011 budget and promises to use any savings to cut property taxes, Shepard said. “He has witnessed the inordinate increase in white-collar village staff levels over the years and links that trend to the corresponding rise of taxes.”
