East Rockaway cannons get facelift

The cannons at East Rockaway Village Hall got a facelift on Aug. 28 when a teen group from the Church of the Nazarene volunteered their time, effort, and service to paint them for the village. It was a morning of fun from 10 a.m. until noon that event director Bob Brockett will never forget.

"Our kids did an absolute wonderful job," Brockett said. "They just loved it. We wanted to give back a little, and they did that to the fullest."

To get the event off of the ground, Brockett collaborated with his wife, Nancy Brockett, who works with the dance ministry at the church, to spearhead the event. "[We] have a heart for the youth," Brockett said. "We did a fantastic job - I was overwhelmed."
