East Rockaway youth coalition seeks volunteers

Events planned; help needed

Posted

The Coalition for Youth in East Rockaway is seeking volunteers to help run and supervise programs for its organization.
“In the past months, we have been able to count on the village recreation to help supply supervisors for our programs,” said Theresa Barto, president of the Coalition for Youth in East Rockaway. “Unfortunately, the village can now only supply us with one supervisor per program. That being said, we really need the help of our steering committee to keep these programs going.”
Barto said that volunteers are needed to help run “Game Nights,” which are set to being on Nov. 12 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.  The seventh through ninth-graders will be at Rhame Avenue School, and the fourth through six- graders will be at Centre Avenue School.
More thank 100 children participated in dodgeball two weeks ago at the John Street Complex. “We feel that every penny, every minute is worth knowing that these kids have a safe, drug free environment where they are sharing time with their friends,” Barto said. “Please help us continue to offer these kids’ activities where they will be able to be themselves, where they are able to laugh, play and be with their friends and be kids.”
The Coalition is sponsoring a Bowling Night for 9 to 12th graders on Nov 12 from 10 p.m. to midnight at Woodmere Lanes.  There are supervisors there to make sure the program runs smoothly.
