The sun stayed out all day for the 41st annual Huckleberry Frolic, held in Memorial Park on June 12.

Vendors were sprinkled around the park, selling crafts, artwork and delicious food. The Town of Hempstead set up their passport services and animal shelter; A Child I.D. program, sponsored by the Masons, was held in the Senior Center; rides and games were plentiful. Entertainment included a demonstration by Rio Academy; The Dance Space, and Tais and Naoko Shimbo performed a unique, interactive belly-dancing show.

Proceeds from the day will go to the Grist Mill Museum, located in Memorial Park.

"I love the spirit and the community,” said Eileen Dename, who manned a booth for Astoria Federal Savings Bank in East Rockaway. “"We always volunteer to do it-we love to do it. I love the baby contest. I enjoy the dancing and karate schools as well as the other local organizations that perform. I love the parade."
