Oktoberfest coming to East Rockaway

4th annual event promises rides, games, races and more!

The Village of East Rockaway’s Recreation Department, the East Rockaway Chamber of Commerce and its sponsors, will hold the Fourth Annual Oktoberfest Festival Columbus Day weekend. This year’s festival will be a three-day event taking place Fri., Oct. 8 through Sun., Oct. 10 at the East Rockaway waterfront.

The Oktoberfest Festival will open at 5 p.m. that Friday evening with rides, attractions, games, and food provided by Newton Shows. The event will end at 10 p.m.  The fun and excitement provided by Newton Shows will continue on Sat., Oct. 9 from noon to 10 p.m. and on Sun. Oct. 10 from noon to 5 p.m.

Saturday’s festivities will begin with a 5K Run/Walk beginning at 9 a.m., benefitting the Ed Sieban Memorial Scholarship in memory of Sieban, who died unexpectedly on July 3.  Saturday will be fun-filled with rides, games, vendors, musical entertainment, and delicious food. Entertainment includes local band, Witches Brew playing from 1 to 3 p.m., Almost Famous — an 80’s Tribute Band — playing from 3 to 5 p.m., and Tramps Like Us — a Springsteen Tribute Band — performing from 6 to 10pm.

On Sunday at noon, the festivities begin again with local band The Switch playing from 1 to 3 p.m. and headlining BIG SHOT — a Billy Joel Tribute Band — performing from 3 to 4:45 p.m.  The festival will come to a close at 5 p.m. 

“We invite all residents of East Rockaway and our neighboring communities to come down to the East Rockaway waterfront and enjoy great fun, food, and entertainment,” said Recreation Director Kristen O’Hagan. “We look forward to seeing a wonderful crowd of friends and neighbors at the Oktoberfest Festival 2010.”
