The eighth annual Patrick Xavier Owens Games will be held at East Rockaway High School on Jan. 22, beginning at noon.

The event, organized by Patrick’s brother, Alan, celebratees the memory of a brave young boy who died in 1997 at the age of 5. Since its inception in 2004, the PXO Games have raised over $50,000 for the Associated School for Children with Down Syndrome (ACDS) which Patrick attended. All funds will go to benefit the school directly, and are used for supplies such as computers, new technology and desks. Some of the money has even been used for rebuilding a new computer lab.

“This event will be the biggest yet,” Alan Owens said. “I have dedicated myself and put my heart into this year. We have gotten support from all parties involved and look forward to the big day.”

The PXO Games will include men’s and women’s alumni games and a basketball shooting contest with a $10,000 prize. The competition will be followed by a reception at the Knights of Columbus, 2985 Kenneth Place in Oceanside, beginning at 5 p.m. Tickets for the reception can be purchased at www.acds.org.
