East Rockaway High School's Senior Seminar program helps students decide on a career path

East Rockaway High School held its annual Senior Seminar breakfast on June 1. Students in the program displayed their tri-boards and spoke of their experiences in the work force. They invited their workforce mentors and presented them with certificates of appreciation.

Under the guidance of teachers Russell Pajer and Ginny Sievers, the Senior Seminar program allows students to spend time in the work force for a few hours twice a week during the last semester of school in a field that they think they would be interested in pursuing.

This year, one student worked as a mechanic, another worked in the radiology department of a local hospitalm while another worked with the art teachers at the East Rockaway elementary school, and someone else worked as a make-up artist. The Herald takes part in this program every semester, and this year, among other assignments, senior Nikki Roeill wrote a column about her Rock Rivarly experiences, did research for stories, and told about her trip to Italy.

“We’re having a great year,” said Pajer. “There are more students in this program than every before. Where else can they get the experience that they do?”
