Sen. Jack Martins (R-Elmont) introduced a bill last week to repeal a recently implemented policy by the Metropolitan Transit Authority that charges customers a $10 processing fee for returning unused Long Island Rail Road tickets. Martins said he introduced the legislation because he believes the fee is an unfair addition to the MTA’s already inconvenient fare increases and service cuts that have occurred over the past year. more
More than 150 swimmers from the Long Island Aquatic Club will compete in the 2011 Short Course Junior Olympics at the Nassau County Aquatic Center March 27 to March 29. The athletes representing the LIAC will compete against swimmers from throughout the New York Metropolitan area during the three-day meet. Athletes in this competition range in ages from 8 to 18. To qualify for the event, many of the swimmers have been practicing five to six days a week, and achieved their qualifying standards in other local swim meets throughout the year. more
