Help prevent child abuse and bullying

Child Abuse Prevention Services (CAPS), is seeking volunteers to train to present its signature in-school programs on bully prevention, Internet safety, child abuse and more to local students.  This professional training is free.

CAPS is a non-profit organization on Long Island dedicated to the prevention of bullying, child abuse and neglect, and provides youth violence prevention and child safety education at no cost to local students in grades two through 2.

“CAPS student programs help to empower school-age children to stay safe from bullying, cyber-bullying, child abuse and neglect, better navigate their social relationships, and become good online citizens,” said Alane Fagin, executive director. “We’re looking for people who have an interest in child safety and want to contribute their time and talents toward teaching children how to stay safe from harm.”

Interested individuals are interviewed at the CAPS Roslyn office. Those who qualify are provided free professional training to prepare to become a Volunteer Presenter in Nassau or Suffolk schools that have requested programs for their students.

Volunteers may choose to present to elementary, middle or high school grades, must be available during school hours and have their own transportation. In order to be considered active with CAPS, they must present at least one school program per month during the academic year.

Founded in 1982, the Roslyn-based Child Abuse Prevention Services is underwritten by private donations and corporate and foundation grants. For more information, call (516) 621-0552 or (631) 289-3240 ext. 104, or visit www.capsli.org.
