Polk Street School stands up to bullying

Polk Street School students and staff wore pink in honor of Anti-Bullying Day, an annual event celebrated late last month by the school and people all around the world.

This year marked the school’s 10th year of supporting the event, which is also known as Pink Shirt Day and is commemorated in Canada and various other places throughout the world.

All students at the Franklin Square school participated in a read-aloud of “I Am Human: A Book of Empathy,” by Susan Verde, a children’s picture book about possibility and the human experience.

Students later gathered outside to position themselves to create a large peace sign image and spell the word “kind.” They also decorated paper shirts with messages of kindness and positivity, the district said.
